First Artifacts Have Arrived At New African American Museum In Washington, DC

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture is slated to open in 2015.  The museum will be in the heart of Washington, DC.  This video shows the first artifacts arriving and being installed.  They include a rail car from the 1920's and a prison tower from Angola, the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture will be a place where all Americans can learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience, what it means to their lives and how it helped us shape this nation. A place that transcends the boundaries of race and culture that divide us, and becomes a lens into a story that unites us all.
Construction of the NMAAHC building will begin on the Mall in 2012 and will be completed in 2015. Until then, we invite you to visit our gallery located on the second floor of the National Museum of American History.
