October 18, 2019 OneUnited Bank is a Black owned bank that operates primarily online. The bank is well known for promoting the concept of African Americans banking and shopping with Black owned establishments. The bank has a new initiative called 'BankBlack X' that seeks to educate the Black community using a new online training portal. BankBlack X has 3 main components.
Teri Williams, President & COO of OneUnited stated, "We have many weapons to affect change, starting with the truth. The reality is that almost everything we have been taught about Black Americans and money has been wrong. We have been bamboozled and led astray…for 400 years. We need to share the truth to make financial literacy a core value of our community!" We visited the free online training portal and it seems to be easy to use and very informative. This may be a great tool in order to spread financial literacy in our community.
