    National Urban League Announces New Conference Participants

National Urban League logoJuly 20, 2005 - Hugh Price, former president National Urban League; Bruce Gordon, President National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples and Janet Murguia, President, National Council of La Raza will participate in a plenary session, titled Civil Rights: The National Urban League at 95 at the National Urban League Annual Conference, Marc H. Morial, President, National Urban League announced yesterday.

This plenary session, scheduled on July 28 at 9 a.m., is part of the National Urban League Annual Conference, which takes place in Washington, D.C. from July 27th - 31st .

Dick Gregory, noted author, activist and comedian will join the discussion along with Herman Lessard, president, St. Petersburg Pinellas County Urban League and David Thomas, chief diversity officer, Sprint. Jerry Moore III, chairman of the Greater Washington Urban League and Partner, Venable LLP will bring remarks. National Urban League President Marc Morial will lead the plenary session.

Highlights of the 2005 conference include a wellness walk, empowerment exhibits, and strategic vision sessions and activities targeted to young professionals between the ages of 21 to 40 as part of a special agenda called the Influencer Summit, designed to recognize and empower the emerging leaders of the future.

In addition, strategic forums will address empowering the Black Male, closing the achievement gap, sports panels, international affairs, small business development, health roundtable, community policing, civil rights and civic engagement, homeownership, franchise ownership, education and black mayors.

Admission to the Empowerment Exhibits Zones is free. The empowerment exhibits zones will feature an employment, health, technology, homeownership and fun zones. This year's employment zone will feature the participation of more than 100 Fortune 500 and high-tech companies, as well as non-profit and government agencies with both local and national job opportunities. Job seekers can have face-to-face discussions and interviews with recruiters.
