Designer, Brinda Devine, owns and operates an internet-based business that features "ethnically inspired" specialty clothing for infants.  The Detroit, Michigan area woman is on a mission to increase awareness of her timely products for infants and toddlers.

Many parents have gone through the agony of trying to find a unique outfit for their child to wear at a special ceremony or event.  According to Devine, there are usually racks and racks of plain and unimaginative clothing for parents to choose from.  Now these frustrated parents have an option, and they don't even have to leave their home.  BabyDevine.Com is one of the internet's only websites where people can order customized clothing for infants.

From baby dedications to Bar mitzvahs, Baby Devine has
that special clothing to suit every infants needs. For Ms. Devine, each custom tailored garment, there is a spiritual and personal connection in every stitch. "In my efforts to find an appropriate outfit for my 6 month old son's dedication ceremony, I discovered that there were no options for  finding that perfect outfit and from this experience birth my second child
Baby Devine", says Brinda Devine, Designer & Owner of Baby Devine.  "I
wanted to offer mothers options by providing beautifully unique garments for
any occasion.

Devine is also an executive in the real estate industry which is very different from children's retail.  When asked what made her decide to act on her idea of starting her own business, she stated "I've always had a concept of - you should have your own."  This concept was instilled in the young Devine by her mother, whom she described as being "a very good mom."

Mom should be very proud of her daughter, who while juggling a successful real estate career, also manages to grow and sustain her internet business.  What advice might she have for a person wanting to start their own business?  "Research...research the cost," she replied.  She advises those entertaining the idea of starting a business to have a plan in place.  She said that there could be a lot of expenses that one might not anticipate if the planning and research has not been done.

Having good people in place is also important.  Devine says that she also haves to give thanks to her primary sewer, Monsanto Grant.  While talking with Devine, one can tell she loves people and her people skills have probably helped her business survive the first few years of business.  Remember, this amazing woman operates this business while being a full time executive.

After a rocky start her company is now poised for growth.  Devine has also been entertaining the idea of breaking into the off line retail world as well.  "I've had several requests," she says.

For the rest of 2005, Brinda says that she will continue her mission to give parents options in infant clothing.  She says that many people are tired of boring designs and want clothes that represent their family's beliefs and interests.

Will the marketplace respond to her business model?  No one knows for certain.  However, after speaking with her, we do know that this enterprising woman will do her best to keep offering good quality clothing using the finest materials available.  This will ensure that parents will continue to have the option of having their children look "Baby Devine."
